Oregonians Have To Pump Their Own Gas Now And Residents Are Freaking Out

For most people across the U.S. pumping your own gas is just part and parcel of owning a car. Full-service gas stations are a quaint memory of a bygone era - that is, except for two states, Oregon and New Jersey. And now, thanks to a new law that went into effect on Monday, Oregon will join the rest of the country in pumping their own gas.

But Oregon residents aren't happy about the change.

House Bill 2482, signed into law last year by Gov. Kate Brown, allows motorists who live in counties with fewer than 40,000 residents to pump their own gas - a job that used to be held by gas station attendants. When KTVL, a television station in Medford asked viewers what they thought about the change, Oregonians were not shy about venting their frustrations.

Motorists in Oregon posted their feelings about the change:

"I don't even know HOW to pump gas and I am 62, native Oregonian...I say NO THANKS! I don't want to smell like gasoline."

Another person says only qualified people should pump his gas.

"I've lived in this state all my life and I REFUSE to pump my own gas ... This is a service only qualified people should perform. I will literally park at  the pump and wait until someone pumps my gas."

“Yuck! Pumping my fuel in freezing temperatures and handling a nasty ole fuel nozzle that 50 other people have touched that day (and who knows what cooties are on there), no thank you. It’s nice to not have to pump your own fuel.”

And of course, the internet was there to respond. Thousands of people joined in on making fun of the outrage by posting comments about how difficult it really is to pump gas in other states:

“Apparently there’s an entire state of people in America who are incapable of filling their own car with petrol.”

“Omg this post is hilarious!! I’m in Wisconsin and with the wind chill it’s currently -17. You know what I did this morning?! Had to pump my own flipping gas!! It’s not that hard people!!”

“FEAR NOT OREGON!!!! I’ve decided to move to Oregon to open a school to teach people how to pump their own gas … I understand Oregon, adulting is hard and sometimes you [need] someone to show you how. I’m here for you.”

“Apparently most people in Oregon assume that in order to pump gas you must first remove all people from the vehicle and stand in the open while thugs attack from all angles, all while being sprayed with gas.”

The post quickly went viral as it was shared more than 50,000 times and drew more than 42,000 comments.

Twitter had to have their fun at the Beaver State's expense too.

Don't worry Oregon, we're here for you. Just don't get into any gas fights and you'll be fine.
