Severe Storms in Mid-South Leave At Least 2 Dead

Authorities say at least two people have died and several homes were damaged or destroyed following severe weather in the mid-South region on Saturday.

A possible tornado near Adairville, Kentucky is being blamed for the death of Jane Combs after it liekly struck her home according to Logan County Sheriff Clint Wright. Another death was reported in Clay County, Arkansas where a trailer was blown into a nearby pond because of strong winds in the area. A Facebook post from the Clay County Sheriff's Department identified the victim as Alvin Foster.

"Tonight's storms have resulted in severe damage to several areas of Clay County," authorities wrote. "Reports of power outages, power poles down, and flooded roads have been reported at this time."

The violent storm system that has soaked much of the southern and central U.S. over the weekend could also lead to severe flooding in the days ahead. Multiple rivers in the central U.S. have already reached, or are projected to reach major flood stage over the next few days.

Emergency crews across the region are warning residents to avoid flooded areas, and not go out if they can help it.
