New 'Fantastic Beasts' Trailer Reveals A Major 'Harry Potter' Secret

The final trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald dropped on Tuesday (Sept. 25) and oh, man, does it contain a major Harry Potter secret. Fan theories have been circulating around Chloe Kim's character in the film for some time as she was only billed as "The Maledictus." For those who aren't aware of this wizarding world terminology, a maledictus is "a female individual whose blood had been cursed from birth, and eventually would lead her to turn into a beast," according to the Harry Potter Wiki. Many speculated Kim's maledictus is actually Nagini, Voldemort's killer snake and Horcrux from the original series, and the trailer just confirmed this theory.

In an epic shot from the trailer, Nagini can be seen transforming into a snake as her name is whispered. In the film Nagini is a member of the traveling Circus Arcanus, according to Entertainment Weekly, where she "puts on a very convincing transformation act for muggles." By some other quick glimpses of Nagini in the trailer, it appears she eventually teams up with Grindelwald.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kim was allowed to reveal her character's name for the very first time. "This is a very emotional moment for me," she said as the rest of the cast cheered her on. She's had to keep her character a secret for over a year now, so, it must be such a relief that the news is finally out. Kim was reportedly so nervous about the secret getting out that she wouldn't even use her character's name during table reads.

“It will be so interesting to see another side of Nagini,” Kim told EW. “You’ve only seen her as a Horcrux. In this, she’s a wonderful and vulnerable woman who wants to live. She wants to stay a human being and I think that’s a wonderful contrast to the character.”

Does this major reveal make you more excited to check out Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald? The film hits theaters on Nov. 16.
