Man Realizes Decades Later That 'Ghost' Brother Saw Was Something Way Worse

Just in time for Halloween, a man has shared a truly horrifying ghost storyon Reddit, and even though it turned out that the ghost wasn't actually anything paranormal, it only made his tale freakier.

In it, the man described how when he was seven and his brother was 10, his brother told him that he was going to go to the bathroom before going to sleep, as opposed to in the middle of the night, when he typically would. The brother explained how he was now too scared to walk to the bathroom in the early morning hours because he keeps "seeing a man wearing stripes at the end of the hallway." The man wrote how hearing his brother say this terrified him into thinking he'd see a ghost through the large windows at the end of the hall when it got dark. It got so bad he'd run to his bedroom at night.

Fast forward 11 years to when the man turned 18. He and his mom were talking about a dog they had for a short time when he was little and how the dog always got into mischief. She recalled one time when she opened the door for the police and the pup ran into the kitchen and tore open a big bag of dog food. Having never remembered a time the cops came to his house, he questioned his mom. She realized she had never told him because he was too young at the time and revealed to him why she had to call 911.

She said, "One night, I woke up hearing noises outside my window and when I looked, I saw a man staring into my bedroom." She described how she turned on the lights and the man ran off, adding, "I can't remember all the details I gave them when they showed up... tall white male, wearing a striped shirt and jeans, short dark hair... something like that. They said it matched the description of a man they were looking for in the area. It turns out he had escaped from jail on a murder charge."

At the time, the guy didn't make the connection, but years later, he did, writing, "Now, I know it sounds so obvious hearing those two stories back to back, but it wasn't until a few years ago, in my mid-twenties, that I pieced together that my brother had unknowingly warned us about a murderer who spent multiple nights casing our home."
