PG&E Asks Regulators For $1.1 Billion Rate Hike For Wildfire Safety

Pacific Gas & Electric is asking California regulators for a $1,100,000,000 rate hike saying half of that money will be spent on wildfire safety.  PG&E is under investigation for its role in the deadly Camp Fire in northern California.  There have already been lawsuits filed blaming the utility company for the blaze that killed 86 people and destroyed more than 18,000 buildings.  PG&E reported early Thursday that its employees found equipment damaged by bullet holes near where the fire started.  An official cause for the fire has not been determined. PG&E said in a statement on its website that none of the funds from the rate hike would be used to cover potential claims from wildfires.  They claim that half of it will be spent on stronger power poles and lines, tree trimming and other improvements to minimize wildfire dangers.
