Cardi B's business empire is about to get bigger as the rap titan has filed paperwork with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for her catchphrase "okurrr."
According to court documents obtained by Billboard, the rapper's company, Washpoppin, Inc., filed the trademark on March 11 for her entertaining catchphrase to be printed on items like "paper goods, namely paper cups and posters." Just a day later, an additional filing was made for the phrase to appear on a lengthy list of apparel like "T-shirts, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, pants, shorts, jackets, footwear, headgear, namely hats and caps, blouses, bodysuits, dresses, jumpsuits, leggings, shirts, sweaters and undergarments." She also filed the same paperwork to trademark "okurr" with one less "r."
Bardi Gang saw the rapper's catchphrase take new life when it became the center of her Pepsi spot for Super Bowl LIII alongside Steve Carrell and Lil Jon. In late January, the soda giant unveiled their star-packed in-game commercial titled "More Than OK," where a customer orders a Coke at a retro-styled diner and is interrupted by Carrell when the waiter asks if a Pepsi is a suitable replacement. "Is Pepsi okay?!" Carrell asks with confusion. To drive the message home, Lil Jon and Bardi appear in the ad to offer their signature delivery of the word as the former's hit, "I Like It," plays in the background. An additional Cardi-only spot was filmed, which sees the rapper's variation of the catchphrase hit all of the diner attendees' mouths. Scroll on below to watch her TV spot!
