Kieran Culkin kicked off his Oscars acceptance speech in a memorable way.

Robert Downey Jr. revealed Culkin as the winner in the Best Supporting Actor category at the 97th Academy Awards. The event took place Sunday evening (March 2) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Culkin took home the award for his role in A Real Pain, which also starred the film’s writer and director, Jesse Eisenberg.

“Thanks for handing this [award] to me. This means a lot coming from you,” Culkin told Downey Jr. as he took the stage. He then turned to a fellow nominee in the category, Jeremy Strong, to tell him “you’re amazing in The Apprentice.”

That’s when Culkin’s audio cut out.

The Oscar winner appeared to tell Strong, “I love your work. It’s f***ing — ” and acknowledged the profanity before he continued his acceptance speech. “I’m not supposed to single anyone out. It’s favoritism. …but you were great.”

Culkin went on to share heartfelt remarks to his manager of three decades, Emily Gerson Saines, Eisenberg, his parents and others before turning to his wife, Jazz Charton, to share a story with the audience.

“About a year ago, I was on a stage like this and I very stupidly, publicly said that I want a third kid from her because she said if I won the award, I would — she would give me the kid. Turns out, she said that because she didn’t think I was going to win,” Culkin said. “And people came up to her and were like, you know, really annoying her. I think it got to her. But anyway, after the show, we’re walking through a parking lot. She’s holding the Emmy. We’re trying to find our car. …And she goes, ‘oh God, I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid.’ And I turned to her and I said, ‘really, I want four.’ And she turned to me — I swear to God, this happened. It was just over a year ago. She said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.’”

The crowd laughed and applauded. Charton laughed and nodded, seemingly confirming the story. Culkin said he and his wife shook hands, and “I have not bought it up once until just now. …No pressure. I love you. I’m really sorry I did this again. And let’s get crackin’ on those kids. What do you say?”
