Christmas in October Drinking Game!

Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas kicks off today … Sure, they’re sappy, predictable, and corny … but that’s exactly why so many people tune in. These movies are basically emotional comfort food. Experts say the predictability of those warm-and-fuzzy storylines gives our brains a break from all the real-life stress and chaos. The stories of love, connection, and happy endings are also uplifting, and can release feel-good chemicals in our brain They’re also tied to cozy memories and holiday traditions, making them even more special. In a world that feels a little uncertain, Hallmark movies are like a soft blanket and a mug of cocoa – safe, familiar, and just what we need.

Turn up the heat with a rom-com … There’s another reason Hallmark holiday movies are so popular – and why they start long before the season. A study found that people are more interested in watching romantic movies during the fall and winter than at any other time of the year. Seems when it gets cold out, humans have a need for inner warmth … and rom-coms fit the bill.

And if you really want to have fun while watching … It’s time to bring back the Hallmark Christmas Movies Drinking Game. Here are the rules:

  • Someone mentions how much they hate Christmas.
  • Someone complains about the “big city.”
  • The town goes caroling.
  • They make Christmas cookies.

  • A character has a tight deadline.

  • There’s a misunderstanding between the main characters.
