The practice was in its heyday during the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Back then, employers handed out envelopes of cash as gifts to their employees. Oftentimes, it amounted to one week’s pay and was given the last workday before the holidays. Manager and executive level employees often received even more.
